About Barford Farm

Our Cows

As a family steeped in farming tradition we are passionate about people understanding where their food comes from and how it is produced.

Barford Farm is farm assured by EFSIS- FABBL (Farm Assured British Beef and Lamb) and NDFAS (National Dairy Farm Assurance Scheme). We are not organic but use our own animal manure on the land and adopt a crop rotational policy with grass, wheat, barley and maize.

We have a closed herd of dairy cattle, breeding our own replacements, and follow government guidelines with regard to wildlife strips and have ponds and lapwing scrapes.

We work closely with Hawk and Chalk and provide nesting sites for Barn Owls which breed most years. Also we are fortunate to farm along the north bank or the River Stour and are careful to adhere to the 12 metre fertilizer free zone, have nature meadows and keep a close eye on the river populations in conjunction with The National Trust. Only part of the river bank is on a foot path in order to preserve some solitude.

In line with these policies we welcome group visits and those that have enjoyed the farm and the ice cream! include Kingston Lacy Ice Cream rides.Young Farmers Clubs, Schools including special needs, Gingerbread, Caring for Carers, Coping with Chaos, Chernobyl Lifeline, FWAG( Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group) and Slow Foods.
